OWNER CARE & OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS

Your septic system has been designed and built to provide long term reliable and efficient service. A septic system is designed to treat domestic sewage. Whether the domestic strength sewage is entering a city provided sewer service or whether the sewage is treated and disposed of on-site such as a septic tank or any sewage treatment plant certain items should be used sparingly or not at all. These are listed as follows;

CHEMICALS TO AVOID OR CAREFULLY CONTROL

DISINFECTANTS OR BLEACHES
Use in small quantities only. Use non-chlorine cleaners that are biodegradable and non-toxic.

ALL DETERGENTS
Should be low-sudsing, biodegradable, and low phosphate.

PAPER PRODUCTS
Use white paper products. Natural bacteria do not eat color dyes in paper and therefore do not break down coloured paper. Non-bleached paper (brown in color) take a long time to break down and can therefore clog septic tanks and treatment systems.

ALSO AVOID;
- Discharge from Water Softeners
- Oils, Grease
- Latex Paints
- Chemical Wastes
(such as solvents, paint thinners, caustic cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, etc,)

OBJECTS NOT TO BE PUT INTO THE SEPTIC SYSTEM

disposable baby diapers
sanitary napkins
hair
bandages
rags
cotton balls
strings
condoms
plastic products
coffee grounds
cigarette butts
automotive fluids
mud
water softener backwash
paper towels
cooking grease
food wastes
any non-organic objects

A QUICK NOTE REGARDING...

Garborators
The use of this appliance increases both the organic matter and water entering the system, which in turn will upset the performance of treatment and may cause damage to the drain field. Therefore, it is recommended that there be a limited use of garborators. All solid waste should be disposed of through composting or garbage collection.

Laundry Wash Loading
Your system has been tested and designed around normal laundry washday loading. It is recommended that wash loads be spread out over several days. One day per week for many multiple loads be they full or partial loads is not recommended and may negatively affect the performance for that day and at least one more and may cause a slow build up of sludge in the drain field.

IN CLOSING...

Scheduled cleaning intervals are required to remove any material, which is collected in your septic tank. It is recommended that your septic tank be cleaned every two to three years.
